Job Title: Buyer
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000
We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our client’s purchasing team. This is a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials and services to support manufacturing requirements.
About the Company
Our client is a leading precision engineering business, specialising in high-quality components for demanding sectors such as oil & gas, power generation, defence, and renewables. They offer excellent opportunities for career development within a supportive environment.
Flexible working pattern: Monday to Thursday, 7:30am – 3:30pm, and Friday, 7:30am – 1:30pm (35 hours per week), with flexibility on start and finish times.
The Buyer Role
As the Buyer, you will work closely with suppliers, build strong relationships, and manage purchasing activities in line with business processes. The Buyer will also play a key part in mentoring an apprentice and supporting the company’s growth plans.
Key Responsibilities

Interpret contract review documents and construct product structures

Manage MRP demands, raise purchase orders for materials and sub-contract services

Source and obtain competitive quotations from suppliers

Maintain and update purchase order dates, communicating changes to stakeholders

Resolve technical queries and ensure compliance with contract requirements

Mentor an apprentice within the purchasing team
About You

Experience within a sub-contract engineering environment is essential

Strong knowledge of MRP and ERP systems (IFS experience advantageous)

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

High attention to detail and ability to work independently
